I’ve never used a 3D printer before, but assembled it in minutes, installed software and calibrated easily and was printing a first 3D model within the hour… Seriously impressed! I don’t have much to compare it to, since it’s the first time I use a 3D printer – or even see one in action. But this is really amazing. Accurate, somewhat fast 3D prints, for very little money. Printed 4 models so far, and all came out great.

This machine works quite well. And as my fellow Canadian friend says, it ships quite fast. The belt on the Y axis needed tightening. Got to print the first file on the flash drive supplied and all was nice. The side wall was brittle as if the layers did not stick properly to one another. I increased the temperature by 8 C and now I’m printing very strong parts. I had an issue with the extruder jamming and I replaced the barrel with one from An MK8 extruder which has a PTFE liner inside. Do not use the barrels that have a liner straight trough as they will not work. the liner will lift up and cause a jam. The MK8 barrel has a liner toward the hotend only. The printer has limit switches. Check your Z height before each job using the test sheet. The frame is surprisingly sturdy and once the Slicer settings are good, it prints very well. If your computer is hooked-up to the internet, it will ask you to update Slicer to the new stable version. Be careful and note where your printer, extruder and filament settings are before you do this. If you are not familiar with 3D printers, it is best to say no to the update as the printer works very well out the box. Look at the slicer tutorials on youtube so you can fine tune your printing preference to your liking and your needs. Best regards from Saint-Jerome Quebec. Luc

I am new to the 3D printing world and this is a good introduction. I had the printer set up and printing within a couple of hours of receiving it. The manual is a little lacking but information is available online for the slc3r software. I would consider the print quality average at best as there are a lot of artifacts left over after printing. These can be reduced by playing with the parameters in the configuration; hence the need for the slc3r manual. The accuracy and resolution is variable due to the plastic construction. I notice the Z axis wobble a bit while it is moving due to the lead screws not supported at the top. The Z axis screws are imperial 13 TPI according to my pitch gauge, and this makes it impossible to set the layer thickness to a multiple of Z axis pitch so this is part of the cause for the artifacts on the Z axis. Overall this is a good starter machine for the price.

      Thanks for your comment.

To solve the problem, please check as follows:

      – the version of your software should be 1.5.5. If not, please download at here: http://www.colido.com/en-uk/software-for-colido/
      – the connection (USB cable) between the printer and the computer
      – the COM port selection in “Printing Settings”

If all above are correct and the problem still happen, please let us know.

The reason i have given such a low review is because putting the 3d printer together was fantastic and most of the design however after doing two prints 1) one of your example files and 2) one of my own designs. the hotend became blocked. It was very difficult and time consuming to release the hotend from the printer to unblock it (so far it has been blocked 17 times and inbetween each blockage I haven’t done any prints) although if a person reads my review let my assure them overall it is an excellent product (design wise (apart from one aspect) it is much better than other 3d printers I have tested (although the 3d printer could be better with a metal platform instead of a plastic one lol)

this is my first 3d printer purchase , and was reluctant to spend a small amount on one ( thinking quality would be low ) but i have been amazed buy this product ,yes it is cheap and fairly basic , but with some time and you tube videos i got it working with some pretty good prints . iv’e almost used the roll you get with it , if your having trouble with prints not sticking 1st make sure the nozzle is set correctly , 2nd if it still lifts or doesn’t stick use the hair spray trick works a treat , and ive used normal masking tape with no problems, allot cheaper than the blue tape. all in all great product

Awesome!! Just Awesome!! You can’t beat the price of this 3D Printer and the build size it has to offer. We have another higher end 3D printer that has been nothing but problems for me. I just gave up on it. Your printer out performs this other one and is so easy to setup and get printing. There are several users on Thingiverse that have modded your printer and make it even more precise. You might want to add some of their mods to your printer to make it even better!! I have it working with Octoprint and it just works!! I am so happy with my purchase that I let everyone I know where I got it and how much. For an entry level printer it’s fantastic!! Great for Schools and colorful!! Thanks for making such an incredible machine for home users and hobbyists. The prints coming out of this are amazing, once you dial in the settings.
    Thanks,
    Andy

I have several 3D printers and am an experienced user. I bought this printer to evaluate for other members of my model railway club as it is a very well priced ‘starter’ 3D printer. It assembled easily and worked first time. Those new to 3D printers will have to spend some time getting to grips with Repetier Host (printer driver software) and the slicing software Slic3r. This would be the case with any 3D printer.

The printer produces results nearly as good as my other £1,500+ printers, but works more slowly – about half the speed. This is not an issue for hobby use. One area where it can be improved is by the fitting of an additional 12v cooling fan to blow on the work as it is produced. (see http://www.thingiverse.com for a downloadable dousing for the fan). This helps with printing across gaps. I am able to recommend this printer as an excellent 3D printer for the price.

I have over 3 years experience of 3D printing, making items for model railways. I have three other 3D printers, two costing £1500. I bought the Colido printer to evaluate its potential for other model railway club members, particularly those new to 3D printing. For the price, I was seriously impressed. The printer went together easily and printed well first time. The Repetier Host software and Slic3r software supplied with the printer will take new users a bit of time to master. I am now using Simplify 3D software (bought) and the results from the printer are outstanding.. at least as good as if not better than my more expensive printers. Seriously impressive and I have already recommended it to several other railway modellers (some of whom have purchased).

This is my first 3D printer and so far I’m very impressed. The first thing I made was a nut and bolt, a sample one was included with the printer and I have to say mine was better! I’m into RC aircraft and looking forward to making things for my hobby.

First ever 3d printer – amazing – so happy I chose the diy 3d printer as it was easy to assemble and get the hang of. To anyone that is having issues using a Mac computer I just ran windows 10 through bootcamp on my imac and it works flawlessly with no driver or software problems.
Can I ask if there is a multi extruder available for the colido 3d diy printer at all?
